Snorkels in demand

End users are realising the benefits of using electric machines as opposed to diesel ones in certain applications, according to Snorkel Europe.

The manufacturer reports increasing sales of machines like its A46JRTE rough terrain articulated boom lift which is powered by lithium-ion batteries.

“Hirers and end users have tested the market with, say, one machine and have realised that it performs just like a diesel equivalent,” Scott McCall, Snorkel Europe’s business development manager and net zero specialist, tells me. “They’re coming back now and ordering a second, third or fourth. It’s like the gradual growth in electric vehicle sales.”

Scott says that users appreciate the difference between lithium battery machines which deliver power at a steady rate as they discharge, and those with lead acid batteries that slow down gradually in operation.

“These users are finding that the machines deliver the duty cycle they need for the jobs they are doing," he says.

Andrew Fishburn, VP Strategic Accounts EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Asia) with Snorkel, adds that interest in battery powered products is growing significantly in the wake of the red diesel rebate’s removal and generally rising fuel costs – something I discussed with him on the blog last year.
