HS2 joins net zero plan
29 March 2022
HS2 Ltd, the organisation delivering the UK’s largest infrastructure project, has signed up to support the Construction Leadership Council’s carbon reduction campaign.
It will become a CO2nstruct Zero Business Partner, joining more than 80 organisations from across the sector who have committed to share good practice.
HS2 has already developed its own Net Zero Carbon Plan with targets to make the project net zero carbon from 2035. It has also secured PAS 2080 accreditation which requires a 50% reduction in carbon from contractors.
The organisation is also leading an initiative to encourage a move towards zero-diesel construction sites.
Neil Wait, HS2 head of environmental sciences, said: “As we design and build HS2, we’re working with our supply chain, industry groups and research organisations to implement low carbon materials, alternative fuels, renewable energy and new construction methods to reduce the carbon footprint of the programme and support the decarbonisation of the UK construction sector.”
