Staying power from Stihl

An indication of the ongoing progress that is being made in new technology is shown by Stihl’s introduction of a battery with laminate cells designed to give greater performance.

The new 36V AP 500 S model is the most powerful AP battery in the manufacturer’s range and is designed for use with any tool in its AP System. This line-up includes the TSA 230 cordless cut-off saw which has a 9in diameter blade.

The battery incorporates what are described as flat power laminate cells instead of the more customary round format. Stihl says this extends the running time and increases power capacity by 20%.

The company says that this also helps to double the service life of the battery up to 2,400 charge cycles and to give a working life of up to ten years.
