E-Transit wins award
14 March 2022
The forthcoming all-electric Ford E-Transit has received a Gold Award from independent vehicle safety authority Euro NCAP for its advanced driver assistance systems.
These include autonomous emergency braking when approaching vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, as well as lane-keeping technology, traffic sign recognition and occupant monitoring systems.
The test used in making the assessments of the systems included approaching parked vehicles or slower traffic, as well as when a vehicle in front braked sharply. Testing also included responses to simulations of a child running into the road, and cyclists and pedestrians walking in or crossing the street.
Ford is currently piloting the E-Transit in typical daily operation with selected customers across Europe, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in the spring.
The vehicle is offered with a 135kW standard motor or a 198kW heavy-duty option, with a targeted driving range of up to 196 miles.
25 model variants will be available with maximum gross payload capability of up to 1758 kg (van) and 2090kg (chassis cab). An onboard power take-off can deliver 2.3kW for tools or onboard equipment.
