John F Hunt powers ahead

In what the company believes to be the largest single purchase of Stage V generator sets for the UK hire market, John F Hunt has ordered 180 new units from Bruno Generator Group, ranging from 20kVA to 500kVA, in a deal worth more than £10m.

The Italian manufactured sets, supplied through BGG UK, have integrated telemetry, automatic regeneration without loss of power, and have been designed to Hunt's specification to safeguard them from site-related refuelling issues.

Most Stage V generators rely upon the introduction of AdBlue into the fuel system. They create one twentieth of the pollution compared to the old Stage IIIA sets and represent a significant and positive step on the path towards net zero in the construction industry.

With the increasing demand for power on sites for applications such as charging cars or hybrid excavators where no mains supply is accessible, portable generators are a viable option. And as more UK cities introduce low-emission zones, these sets enable full compliance with the emissions standards stipulated by NRMM (non-road mobile machinery) regulations, says the company.

David Hunt, managing director of John F Hunt Power said: “This major investment of over £10m sees 180 new generators added to our fleet as from spring 2022 and paves the way for future-proofing our business for our clients and employees. But most of all it enables us to offer the cleanest sustainable power going forward. It’s a real game changer.

"However it comes at a cost, as the new sets are incredibly expensive, and you don’t get much for your £10 million these days! Nevertheless, it’s something we must all accept on our collective journey to net carbon zero,” he added.

This investment brings the company’s fleet of generators to nearly 2,500 units. It operates nationwide from five depots in Grays, Bristol, Chester-le-Street, Halesowen and Livingston.
