Aggreko launches green calculator

Aggreko has introduced a calculator on its website that can compare emissions and fuel consumption for on-site power generation equipment in different applications.

The initiative is part of the company’s Greener Upgrades campaign for the construction sector, which has included a multi-million pound investment in equipment and services such as Stage V generators and hybrid batteries, as well as offering hydro-treated vegetable oil (HVO).

The calculator has been developed to help customers find greener alternatives to diesel fuel for power solutions used in construction projects, and shows achievable savings in carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and particulate matter emissions, alongside overall fuel consumption.

Users choose their application and power requirements, and the calculator will show the greenest upgrade, along with other sustainable options based on a variety of possible equipment and fuel choices. 

Chris Rason, managing director at Aggreko Northern Europe, said that the calculator is a necessary step to assist the ongoing decarbonisation of the construction industry. “The Government’s ambitious net zero targets continue to approach, and with each passing year, the task of becoming carbon neutral will become increasingly difficult.”

He continued: “Alongside this, legislation is not standing still – for example, the government’s proposed Sixth Carbon Budget will further accelerate all industries’ path to sustainability, including construction, necessitating all businesses cut emissions by 75% before 2035.”

Aggreko has pledged to reduce the diesel fuel used by customer solutions by at least 50% by 2030 and aims to achieve net zero across all its business operations by 2050.
