Going green helps staff recruitment

While the main motive for going green is to protect the planet, it is becoming clear that it is also important for attracting new employees, particularly in younger age groups

A recent survey undertaken by the computer accessories supplier Targus found that 54% of employees in the UK don’t want to work for a company that doesn’t prioritise sustainability.

Some 61% of 25-34 year olds said that sustainability impacted their choice of who they wanted to work for, while only 40% of over-55s highlighted it as a consideration. People aged 25-44 years old are more likely to believe that sustainability should be a top priority for businesses.

As has been reported earlier on the blog, the current labour shortage throughout industry means that jobseekers can be more selective in their choice of employer.

So going green brings more benefits for organisations than might first appear.

● In more offbeat vein, another survey conducted on behalf of a major retailer into green issues found that, apparently, nearly a third of couples admit to arguing over their sustainability habits, and almost a fifth have either broken up with someone or considered doing so because they are not eco-conscious enough. Perhaps going green could save relationships as well as the planet…
