Power on wheels

If you’re using battery powered equipment at a location without a readily available electricity supply, how do you recharge it?

ZPN Energy is a Coventry-based manufacturer specialising in systems to meet a range of charging requirements, such as charge points delivering up to 250kW that are not constrained to using a 3-phase supply.

Installations can also be fitted with an energy management system for load balancing when charging up to 32 vehicles simultaneously, at rates of between 50kW and 150kW. The charge is automatically directed to the batteries that need it most.

However, the company, which exhibited at the recent Commercial Vehicle Show, also offers a range of ZPN Stores comprising battery packs housed in containers for off-grid power needs.

Dominating its stand display was a mobile electric vehicle charging station (pictured) with multiple batteries mounted inside a truck that can be driven to where power is required. Solar panels can be incorporated to top up the system.

Also on show was the ZapMe (foreground), a compact battery pack that can be mounted underneath a low-loader recovery truck and can fully recharge a depleted car battery in around 40 minutes, the manufacturer states. While designed for emergency breakdown deployment, such technology might be used for other applications.
