Hydrogen Vivaro van

There's much discussion about the relative merits of battery and hydrogen powered vehicles and whether one format will eclipse the other. However, given the scale of the net zero challenge, we'll likely need both.

Vauxhall will introduce its Vivaro-e Hydrogen van to the UK in early 2023. It will be available in left-hand drive markets from the end of 2021. 

The van, which was displayed at the Commercial Vehicle Show last week in cutaway format to demonstrate its internal workings, has a fuel cell system in the engine bay. 

This power setup is said to give a 249-mile range with a refuelling time of three minutes. Regenerative braking is also used to recharge the battery. 

The van offers a cargo capacity of up to 6.1 cubic metres with a payload capacity of 1100kg, which is the same as the internal combustion engine equivalent. Towing capacity is 1000kg.
