Interest in sustainable equipment is certainly growing strongly. Only last week Snorkel officially launched the latest additions to its range of battery powered compact rough terrain scissor lifts and now the manufacturer has announced the first sale of an S3970RTE model to a UK hirer.
Droitwich-based Platform Hire has bought two of these machines as the first part of a larger order.
The S3970RTE is the largest model in the new range of lithium-ion battery powered machines, offering a maximum working height of 13.8m. It measures only 1.8m wide and its platform can be extended up to 1.6m x 4.0m.
Power comes from a 52V system with two UK-made 5.75kWh batteries and integrated battery management systems. An AC electric motor is incorporated with four-wheel drive hydraulic transmission. A third battery can be added for heavier duty cycles or projects that require long-distance driving.
Dave Williams, managing director of Platform Hire, purchased the lifts after a successful demonstration by Snorkel UK area sales manager, Scott Holtby.
“The focus on reducing emissions and achieving net zero targets is increasing across the UK and we are seeing more large construction contractors discussing the need for zero and low emission equipment solutions,” said Dave.
“The fact that our customers can meet both emissions and noise regulations with a powerful rough terrain unit, without any compromise in performance when compared to a diesel unit is a real winner.
“Additionally, when we calculated the savings in maintenance and fuel, even with a higher upfront purchase price, the return on investment is very attractive and we expect to see these units become very popular with our customers.”
Platform Hire provides national coverage from it base in Droitwich. It also operates Platform Hire Racing in the British Superbikes championship, and provides aerial equipment to race tracks around the UK.
