Dig electric vehicles

The rise of electric road transport could bring more benefits to hirers than might at first be imagined.

The Government is being urged to speed up the take-up of such vehicles by encouraging operators of large fleets to use eco-friendly vans.

The Times reported recently that the bosses of major companies like BT, BP, Tesco, Royal Mail and Scottish Power have joined together to form the EV Fleets Accelerator group.

The group will advise the government on measures to increase the take-up of electric vehicles, such as the availability of charging points and improving the infrastructure generally.

One of the group’s recommendations is reported to be installing £10 billion worth of power cables below street level for charging points.

That would involve a lot of digging and ground reinstatement work. And it would likely require a lot of hired equipment...

Pictured is one of Speedy’s latest electric vans, introduced as part of the hirer’s Energise sustainability initiative as discussed recently on the blog.
