Genny Hire’s offshore success with Shindaiwa

Genny Hire has added more PowerCenter 15 generators from Shindaiwa Ltd to its fleet to meet growing demand.
The specialist hirer which is based in Aberdeenshire placed an order for the machines at the recent Executive Hire Show, as reported earlier on the blog. As was mentioned then, they are in great demand.
“The machines are very popular and we have been seeing particular growth in hires to contractors installing offshore wind turbines,” Director Lorna Clark told me. “We can configure them with customised socket panels to give the outputs and plug configurations required.”
The generator provides power to kickstart the wind turbines as required during the construction and commissioning stages.
Transporting the machines from the Aberdeen docks on to the supply ships serving the offshore facilities is quite a logistical challenge, as the pictures show.
Genny Hire has also supplied PowerCenter 15 models for onshore turbine installations in and around the Aberdeenshire area, and they are also popular for use in the construction and event markets.
The PowerCenter 15 is a road-towable unit with a Kubota Stage V engine and offers a 15kVA output, with single and three-phase capability.
Andy Munford, MD of Shindaiwa Ltd, says that the generator is proving popular for the offshore applications owing to the machine’s high power output relative to its size.
“It is a 3,000rpm unit and is smaller than an equivalent with a larger engine running at 1,500rpm,” he says.
Shindaiwa was able to finish the machines in Genny Hire’s distinctive yellow livery as it has its own paint spraying facility at its headquarters in Four Ashes, Staffordshire.
Two years ago, Genny Hire relocated to larger premises on a business park in Kintore, close to Aberdeen’s major western bypass. Two additional team members were also appointed recently to meet increasing levels of business.
