Firefighters blaze a trail to Demon

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service has invested in five new all-terrain vehicles to use as quick-response units for wildfires on Dartmoor, each fitted with a fire fogging unit developed by pressure washer manufacturer Demon International.

The self-contained machines comprise a water tank, engine, pump, hose reel and lance, so are ready to tackle an emerging blaze immediately. The can reach incidents more quickly than a fire engine due to their ability to cope with rough ground.

Demon believes this represents a hire opportunity, especially after a summer of low rainfall, record temperatures and destructive wildfires that affected many areas of the country this year.

“With temperatures set to continue to rise over the coming years, some companies are looking to the future and purchasing their own fire fogging units that can be installed on all-terrain vehicles and trucks, in the hope that they can extinguish or limit the spread of a fire whilst waiting for reinforcements,” said Demon director David Walke.

“Some hire companies have acknowledged this gap in Health & Safety equipment on the UK hire market and are currently in discussions with us about stocking our fire fogging units in various sizes for their customers.”
