Makita’s big battery

The cordless power tool technology developments are coming thick and fast at the moment.

Makita has now launched its largest capacity battery to date offering 288 watt-hours of energy. The 8.0Ah BL4080F offers the longest running time for the manufacturer’s XGT products, meaning less downtime and improved productivity, particularly on higher-drain equipment.

The 40VMax battery has 20 cells and its heavy-duty outer and cell casing are designed to a significantly improve impact resistance. It is also IPX4 rated against water and dust ingress.

It has been designed with Makita’s digital communication function between the tool, battery and charger for optimal recharging and to protect the battery from damage. The company says this can also double the amount of sustained power available during demanding applications.

Kevin Brannigan, marketing manager at Makita, said: “We are very excited to be releasing this product as our largest capacity battery to date. Offering the longest runtime for our XGT products, this will considerably improve productivity on site, as users won’t need to down tools to recharge batteries as often.

“Furthermore, despite its capacity, the battery can be charged in just over an hour – at approximately 76-minutes when using the DC40RA charger.”
