Sunbelt powers forward with OPS acquisition

Sunbelt Rentals has announced the acquisition of the critical power hire business, Optimum Power Services, signalling the hirer’s intention to develop its activities in clean energy and critical power solutions.

The purchase follows Sunbelt’s acquisition in April of clean energy provider Hybrid Power Hire (HPH).

Andy Wright, chief executive officer of Sunbelt Rentals UK says: “This acquisition represents the next stage of our journey to be the rental supplier of choice for energy products. With the HPH acquisition bringing clean energy and OPS providing critical power, Sunbelt Rentals can provide a wide array of energy solutions and services to our customers.”

Karl Sullivan, operations director at Kent-based OPS added: “We are delighted to join the Sunbelt Rentals team, working together to provide customers with all energy solutions to suit their needs. The team at OPS will bring over 30 years’ experience in the field of energy management to Sunbelt Rentals and we’re all looking forward to working with the team to drive the new energy solutions forward.”

OPS operates throughout the UK and its services include the supply of uninterruptible power supply systems, load banks, generator hire from 30kVA through to 2000kVA in both LV or HV, transformers, associated cable hire and ancillary equipment, and fuel management services. 

Customers span numerous markets besides construction, including data centres, financial institutions, health care, telecommunications, utilities, facilities management, rail, oil and gas, manufacturing and renewable energy.

● Given the current concerns about power supply disruption and the need for reliable energy sources, this looks like a timely and significant acquisition for Sunbelt in the UK. It also follows the purchases earlier this year of Movietech and PKE Lighting serving the film and television industry, showing the business actively pursuing speciality markets outside mainstream tool and plant hire.
