Eagle’s pulling power

A significant investment in heavy-duty cable and pipe installation machinery has quickly paid dividends for Glasgow-based Eagle Plant Hire.

The company recently bought two Grundowinch units that enable hands-free cable pulling and slip lining. Any slack is immediately sensed and quickly taken up.

“We bought the machines recently after having re-hired this sort of equipment in the past,” Eagle’s sales director Iain MacDonald tells me. “We haven’t seen them in the yard since we took delivery of them!

“Contractors use them on gas, electricity and water installation projects to pull the pipe off a cable drum trailer automatically and through a lining or along a trench, which is particularly useful on long runs.

“It shows the strength of the utilities market, which is booming at the moment. So we decided to invest in our own units for the fleet and we may be buying more in the future.”

Eagle Plant Hire has depots in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and also has a dedicated Survey & Safety location.
