Rockets on the road

While Rocket Rentals obviously focuses primarily on plant and tool hire, it has always been willing to explore other markets, one of which is offering vehicles such as pickups.

The Gloucestershire-based company recently added two MAN TGE vans to its hire fleet which have rapidly proved popular owing to the prevailing and well-publicised supply chain difficulties in obtaining such items.

“Some time ago we recognised that getting hold of vans was generally becoming very hard, so I decided to place an advance order,” Simon Tomblin, Rocket Rentals’ managing director tells me.

“We bought them through a truck dealership that gives us out-of-hours service backup, which was important to us.”

The two MAN vans have been specified with uprated engines and four-wheel drive, and Rocket will be taking delivery of more in the near future.

Most of the company’s vehicle hirers are existing Rocket customers and Simon says that many see this as a cost-effective way of procuring a vehicle rather than running one themselves. The typical arrangement is a contract hire agreement of between 12 and 36 months.

As you can tell from the picture above, the registration plates are also very impressive…
