Get set for Groundhog Day

As mentioned on the blog many times, business boomed for site welfare facility manufacturers in the wake of the pandemic because of heightened health and safety provision and the need for social distancing, which led to more site cabins being required.

So it’s not surprising to hear that Genquip Groundhog is developing new offices at its Neath headquarters.

In three weeks’ time the company’s existing office block will be demolished, and the construction of a building double the size will start.

The company says this is the single largest investment it has ever made.

This new facility should be completed by the end of 2023 and will comprise modern offices for more personnel, a purpose-built training facility, a product showroom, meeting rooms, a canteen, coffee shop and a rest area with decking where staff can take meal breaks.

Peter Beach, the company’s sales and marketing manager, tells me that a special and appropriately titled ‘Groundhog Day’ open event has been pencilled in for February 2, 2024 when the facility will be officially opened, complete with visitor attractions and a barbecue.

“We have been expanding steadily over the years and the new offices will give us facilities for the next decade and beyond,” he says.

The separate Groundhog factory facilities at the site will be unaffected by the office development. Manufacture actually takes place in three buildings, one for assembly, another for finishing work and the third for bespoke projects.

While work takes place, personnel will be located in other buildings on the site and in temporary office facilities.

Also, from an environmental perspective, Genquip Groundhog has appointed the University of Sheffield to develop a Carbon Energy Plan covering CSR (corporate and social responsibility) and ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) obligations.

“This will include determining the carbon footprint of our products and the factory, and then how they perform from an environmental perspective on-site,” says Peter. “It will also look at their sustainability across their whole lifecycle.”
