P.E.T. keeps growing

At the recent Executive Hire Show I bumped into Carl and Barbara Banks, directors of P.E.T. Hire Centre in Crewe.

This award-winning company operates from what must be one of the most impressive depots in the industry, complete with a sizeable retail area. However, during our conversation Carl and Barbara told me there are plans to move to an even larger facility in a couple of years.

“We keep buying more equipment and can hardly fit everything in. For example, we now have more than 100 powered access machines in the fleet and have added more diggers and dumpers. The retail area is also expanding: it’s not unusual for customers to come in, hire equipment and then spend hundreds of pounds on items ranging from building equipment to lifting shackles.”

P.E.T., which has an event hire activity alongside its main tool and plant hire operation, moved to its current purpose-built facility – which Carl designed himself – seven years ago. The new location is only a quarter of a mile away and still in the centre of Crewe, and is the site of a former railway works where locomotives were once built.

The area is now a trading estate and, when the move is eventually completed, the P.E.T. brand and frontage will feature prominently alongside the likes of McDonald's, Morrisons and KFC.
