Confident Kentec finds new premises

Kentec Hire Services is moving to new premises very close to its previous location in Tonbridge. This reflects the ongoing growth of the business and its expanding hire fleet.

“We’ve moved the operation from a 2,500 sq ft building to a 5,500 sq ft facility with a yard of around 1,500 sq ft of space,” managing director Steve Booker told me.

“All the tools and equipment have been moved over now and we are trading from the new building. The contractors doing the refit encountered delays at the end of last year because so many of their staff were affected by, or isolating from, Covid but everything should be complete by the end of March.”

The previous premises will now be used exclusively by the company’s successful and expanding sibling business, Kentec Training, including its administrative function which had been located in a separate building.

The new tool hire location, which was formerly a fuel distribution depot, gives much-needed space.

“We used to find ourselves stepping over things as we got busier and busier and we started spilling over into Kentec Training’s practical demonstration area,” said Steve.

“Someone came in a few months ago to enquire about hiring a flail mower. We had to move about a dozen machines to bring it out and show the customer, and then put them all back again when he said he’d be back at the weekend to collect it.

“We had been looking for a new building for about six months. It was proving difficult but then a friend who is also a customer said that some premises he owned were becoming available just round the corner from us, and asked whether I knew of anyone who might be interested.

“It was ideal. And I’m a great believer that if you take positive decisions and act with confidence, solutions will present themselves.”
