Expanding into tool hire

A recent story on the blog considered whether inflationary pressures and other economic challenges might deter new hire industry entrants from starting a business, and discourage existing companies from expanding.

That post ended by suggesting that there were indeed many pro-active hire businesses, and Vertikal UK is one such example.

Originally specialising in powered access machinery, the Scunthorpe-based hire business has just opened a dedicated tool hire depot close to its headquarters.

This follows on from having added construction plant like Kubota mini excavators and Thwaites dumpers to the portfolio last July, which were previously being re-hired to meet demand.

The tool hire depot opened its doors on 4 January and is easily seen by new customers because of the building’s strike green livery.

Tool hire manager Dave Hall says that Vertikal UK has invested significantly in new equipment for the fleet. This includes dehumidifiers, heaters, lights, pumps and other items from The Hire Supply Co, compaction plates from Altrad Belle, and Hilti power tools supplied under the manufacturer’s Fleet Management programme whereby equipment costs and maintenance charges are covered by a fixed monthly fee.

Other additions include Euro Towers aluminium towers finished in green, and a retail facility has been introduced offering items like OX tools and diamond products.

While the tool hire operation serves customers within a 40-mile radius, access equipment is supplied nationwide.

Key machinery brands in the Vertikal powered access fleet include Snorkel, Niftylift, Manitou, Skyjack, Genie and Dingli.

The company is PASMA accredited and offers access training. It also has plans for further expansion.
