CPA’s search for Stars

Employers across the construction plant industry have until the end of March to nominate their skilled trainees and apprentices for the Construction Plant-hire Association’s (CPA) Stars of the Future Awards 2022.

Entries can be submitted by employers including plant-hire companies, manufacturers, contractors, suppliers and others operating in the construction plant sector, and 2022 marks a ten-year landmark for the awards programme.

This year, six national titles will be awarded: Plant Mechanic of the Year (Level 2), Plant Technician of the Year (Level 3), Plant Operative of the Year, Plant Installer of the Year, Lifting Technician of the Year and Hire Controller of the Year, as well as some special awards.

Kevin Minton, chief executive of the CPA said that there were 70 nominations from across the industry for Stars of the Future in 2021, and anticipates an increase this year.

The closing date for nominations is 31 March and entry forms can be downloaded here, where a video clip of last year’s event can also be viewed.

The 2022 winners will be announced at a live awards presentation at the Heart of England Conference and Events Centre in Fillongley, near Coventry, on 7 July.

The national winners for Stars of the Future 2021 (pictured above) were Dean Johnston of Liebherr and NSCG Stafford College (Plant Mechanic of the Year), Luke Thornton of GGR Group and Activate Apprenticeships (Plant Technician of the Year), Jim Baraclough of L Lynch Plant Hire (Plant Operative of the Year), Liam Basson of Falcon Tower Crane Services (Plant Installer of the Year), Amy Wicks of L Lynch Plant Hire (Hire Controller of the Year), Beth Doel of HSS and Reaseheath College (Best Personal Statement) and Lucy O’Rourke of Sunbelt Rentals and Reaseheath College (Judges’ Special Award).
