Himoinsa meets Storm Arwen demand

This industry is all about rapid responses from hirers and suppliers, and Himoinsa Power Solutions certainly demonstrated that in meeting an urgent customer enquiry.

When Storm Arwen swept across large areas of Scotland and the north of England last Friday night, many trees were brought down and power supply networks damaged. Many households had their electricity service cut off and some are still not reconnected.

This has created urgent demand for generators to provide power over what could become considerable periods.

“We took an urgent enquiry for ten generators late on Monday afternoon from a major hirer which is based in Derbyshire and operates nationwide,” Himoinsa managing director Clive Dix told me.

“Rob Amos and Paul Howson (respectively Himoinsa’s sales manager and operations manager) stayed on till well after 10pm to see the lorry loaded up and on its way. It was like the old pre-Covid days and it was good to see that hirers and suppliers can still rally round to meet emerging demands. We certainly haven’t forgotten how to react.”

This latest order comprised Himoinsa machines ranging from 20kVA to 60kVA, mostly with Yanmar engines. And I understand the hirer has since ordered more.

While emergency response generators like these are obviously supplied to meet immediate short term needs, they may well stay out over the longer term or become permanent installations as energy networks review and replace an ageing overground supply network.
