Bobcat’s extra hands

Bobcat has launched a remote control system for its compact loaders. Called MaxControl, it is compatible with the manufacturer’s machines incorporating its selectable joystick controls (SJC) dating as far back as 2004.

The system is available now on iOS devices and an Android version will be offered shortly. Bobcat states that when lifting and carrying large loads, the system eliminates blind spots in front and raises awareness of the surrounding environment, effectively providing an extra set of hands.

The company also says that some two-person jobs can now be achieved solo, such as loading a machine, and operators can dig posts or install fences without getting in and out of the cab.

MaxControl system uses a Wi-Fi signal to communicate with the hand-held device and has a range of up to 100m. It also gives machine diagnostics information.

One of the first users in Germany described the operating process as like driving a remote-controlled car, saying that he In had mastered the technique within a few hours.

Vijayshekhar Nerva, head of innovation and acceleration for Doosan Bobcat EMEA, adds: “We are looking to make MaxControl a simple modular solution, with one hardware box for the groundwork, laying the foundation for other features. Remote operation is the first feature and we are looking into adding more in the future such as Object Avoidance and Semi-Autonomy.”
