LGH levels up

Modular building is one of the modern methods of construction that is often mentioned as a way of designing and erecting buildings faster, cost-effectively and in an environmentally friendly way.

Specialist lifting equipment hirer, LGH, has now added Ganterud L20 yokes to its fleet that are designed to handle both light and heavy objects weighing up to 20 tonnes, and to reduce the installation time of prefabricated buildings by up to 30%.

Modular housing is set to become a key element of the Government’s new housing strategy, and LGH says it is keen to bring this radio-controlled, precision levelling device to the hire market.

The company believes the timing could not be better, given the pressures construction businesses are under with reduced labour levels.

The Ganterud L20 operates with an internal standard battery, making it independent of external power sources. This increases productivity rates as it levels the objects being lifted quickly and safely with the press of a button, reducing the need for both expensive cranes and waiting times.

The yoke also eliminates potential damage and improves safety by using a radio-controlled alignment of the chain. The battery can typically be recharged overnight and with normal use it can last up to five days.

Edwin Boelens, European sales director at LGH, said: “We’ve experience of the prefabricated housing in the EU as it is standard practice over there and with the UK Government’s stated objectives in MMC (modern methods of construction), we can see the direction of travel here and wanted to invest today in this innovative time-saving solution.”

He added, “Currently modular housing construction in the UK accounts for around 10% of the market but the three factors that will drive its growth, namely affordability, sustainability and availability are now aligned. We’re looking to seize these opportunities with companies at the cutting edge of MMC.”
