Strong machine sales
27 August 2021
Retail sales of construction and earthmoving equipment remained strong in July and were 31% above the levels seen in the same month last year when sales were recovering from the impact of the first lockdown.
The findings come from the statistics exchange run by Systematics International Ltd in partnership with the Construction Equipment Association (CEA).
Sales in the first seven months of this year were 66% up on 2020 levels, reaching over 22,000 units.
The figures show that telehandlers are seeing the strongest growth, with sales more than double last year’s levels at this stage. Road rollers are also reported to be very strong, reflecting ongoing highways construction activity. .
The weakest sales are are in the sector for mini/midi excavators up to 10 tonnes, with the rate of increase easing back to 49% this year, after being the strongest growing product type last year.
Doubtless this reflects the difficulties manufacturers are facing in keeping up with demand. The blog has included stories from many hirers who report supply shortages; indeed, the situationis is highlighted in another post on the site today.
