Growth in Cornwall

South West Hire & Sales has opened a new depot in Launceston, bringing its total network to six locations across Devon and Cornwall.
“The new premises are just off the main A30 road and are roughly three-quarters of an hour away from each of the other depots,” says managing director Andy Webber.
“The Launceston depot is considerably bigger too and it will act as a central hub for customer repair work and for storing certain larger items in the fleet such as access equipment, Acrow props, fencing panels and non-mechanical products.”
The site was previously an agricultural machinery dealership and has extensive workshop, office and parking space.
The business was established in 2008 with a depot in Plymouth, under the name Plymouth Tool Hire, followed by further openings at Torquay in 2009, Newquay in 2012, Exeter in 2015 and Truro in 2017, leading to a corporate name-change to South West Hire & Sales to reflect its broader coverage.
Andy believes that the expansion matches growing demand in the south-west of England.
“We do a lot of business with groundworks companies and they are very busy at the moment, especially in Cornwall. And I think all the publicity surrounding the G7 summit in Carbis Bay earlier this month has really aroused interest in the area,” he says.
