Speedy’s electric wheels

Speedy’s electric wheels

My recent blog posts on electric vehicles have certainly aroused a lot of interest. Now news comes that Speedy is overhauling its company car fleet and installing charge points at depots.

Apparently, ultra-low emission vehicles, including hybrid and fully electric cars, now account for nine in ten models available to employees.

The business operates 450 company cars and estimates future savings of up to 260 tonnes of CO2 annually from replacing diesel and petrol models.

It’s part of the hirer’s environmental, social and governance programme, called Energise.

Speedy says that the proportion of such vehicles being offered to staff is up from 20% last year, with the new options including models from Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, Audi and Tesla.

To support the transition, Speedy is rolling out electric vehicle charging points (pictured) across its depot network. Given my most recent post about the charging infrastructure, these facilities will certainly be welcomed by drivers who choose these models.

Chief executive Russell Down, says: “Converting our company car fleet to hybrid and fully electric is a vital step in building a more sustainable future for our business, the industry and for the communities we work in.”
