Sustainable Speedy

Signalling again the importance of providing environmentally-friendly equipment, Speedy has announced today that its chief operating officer has joined the Supply Chain Sustainability School board.

Dan Evans has been with the hirer for 14 years. In addition to his role on Speedy’s Executive Board, he is a non-executive director of a rail civil engineering and plant hire business working directly for Network Rail.

Representing the needs of over 100 partner businesses and 14,000 members, the school is helping the construction industry to meet challenging sustainability targets set out in the government’s UK Construction Strategy 2025.

The organisation aims to upskill firms on integrating more sustainable ways of working into their businesses through CPD-accredited e-learning modules and training workshops, networking opportunities and online resources.

In September, Speedy was awarded gold membership after its sustainability efforts were recognised by the school.

Dan Evans said: “Sustainability sits at the heart of our business. With the construction industry’s significant contribution to carbon emissions, we’ve long recognised the importance of helping our customers transform how they operate by providing low and zero carbon tools and equipment.

“Our ESG [environmental, social and corporate governance] programme, Energise, sets out a detailed set of KPIs aligned with the UNSDG’s (UN Sustainability Development Goals), and through product and services innovation we have a strong track record of collaborating with our partners across the supply chain to introduce new, sustainable solutions.”

James Cadman, climate action and plant group lead at the Supply Chain Sustainability School, said: “Tool and equipment hire represents a vital element of the industry’s supply chain, and Dan will bring a breadth of experience and expertise that will expand the knowledge and resources we can share with our members.”

• Speedy’s Powered Access division recently invested £2m in 50 new low-emission hybrid boom lifts.
