Test and trace in hire
26 January 2021
We’ve all become familiar with the term ‘test and trace’ since the start of the pandemic, but it can also be applied to competently managing equipment hire fleets.
MCA Fusion Hire & Repair, part of Wolseley UK’s Infrastructure division, is upgrading the electrical testing facilities throughout its national branch network by adding testers made by Seaward Electronics.
The business provides butt fusion and electrofusion equipment for the welding and jointing of plastic pipe used in the utilities, construction, and telecoms sectors.
MCA is installing SafeCheck 8 testers at each of its nine branches, along with a label printer, bar code scanner, fault simulator unit and test beacon to provide an integrated and traceable ‘test and tag’ safety system.
The SafeCheck 8 has built-in pre-configured tests for Class I, Class II and IEC extension lead/power cord testing for compliance with HAE code of practice regulations. It can also undertake flash testing.
Test data is being integrated with MCA’s asset management software for record keeping.
MCA’s technical director, Rod McCulloch, said: “The new safety testing bays have been designed on a modular basis to ensure a consistent and high quality approach to testing across all of our branches.”
