It might seem strange to talk about highlights of 2020, given that the last 12 months have been so unusual, unpredictable and challenging.

But since it’s that time when people look back over the preceding year, I thought I would pick out the most popular blog posts since launching this site in June to monitor the industry in these unprecedented times.

Reinforcing the fact that hire revolves around people, my series of Q & A articles have been extremely well received, the most viewed being the insightful interview with Andy Wright, CEO of Sunbelt Rentals UK in November. It covered everything from green technology to heavy metal music.

Leaving aside other Q & As, the three next most popular posts have been: Arvill Plant & Tool Hire’s innovative Viking vehicle (December); the story behind the successful new start-up Instant Tool & Plant Hire (also December); and the strong demand experienced by storage hire specialist Mobile Mini (June).

And in case you missed them, the other top stories each month were: the ongoing success of Phoenix Hire and Sales (July); discussing whether hire has come full circle after the lockdown (July); how wearing masks raised Redpath Tool Hire’s profile (August); how Skipton Hire Centres’ MD Neil Bravery became a delivery driver during the first lockdown (September); Eagle Plant Hire’s new Survey operation (October); and a look back at the world of hire in 1967 (November).

I want to say a huge thank-you to all those who have provided news, information and support for the site, often when they had 1,001 other demands on their time.

And I look forward to uploading more blog posts in these challenging times throughout 2021 - the first of which will be tomorrow.
