Utilities say Y.E.S.

Y.E.S. (Your Equipment Solutions) of Falkirk has been busy adding to its fleet to meet demand from utilities contractors.

“There’s a lot of installation work going on relating to fibre broadband and other services, especially as more people are working from home and upgrading their connections,” managing director David Johnstone tells me.

“We thought we’d be reducing our capex this year because of Covid, but to meet this demand we’ve been buying more 1.6-tonne and 3-tonne Kubota mini excavators, Mecalac rollers, Thwaites 1-tonne dumpers and Wacker rammers that contractors need.”

Y.E.S. now has nearly 30 minis in its fleet and is considering adding more.

“Business has continued to bounce back better than anyone could have expected,” says David. “Demand is across the board and we’ve been adding more Altrad Belle mixers, compaction plates and bowser/pressure washers, and Stihl saws.

“In addition, we have expanded our delivery vehicle fleet and we’re considering adding a 20-tonner with a 10-tonne payload capacity to carry more machines and reduce double journeys to sites.”

Vehicles now sport an updated Y.E.S. logo and branding which, I must say, looks very distinctive.

In his ‘build, build, build’ speech back on 30 June, prime minister Boris Johnson announced a ‘New Deal’ putting jobs and infrastructure at the centre of the government’s economic growth strategy. So it’s likely that utilities should be busy in the years ahead, which is a positive sign for the hire companies supplying them.
