Bright outlook

HSC reports that hirers are busy investing in new equipment to meet anticipated demand as darker, colder conditions approach.

“Local hire companies and multi-depot regional independents in particular, which stayed open during lockdown, say they have been trading well as people on furlough undertook gardening work, built extensions and decorated rooms,” managing director Gary McWilliam tells me.

“They are now looking ahead to a traditionally busy autumn and winter period.”

HSC will shortly introduce the Delta uplighter (pictured) which was shown as a prototype earlier this year. It has LED lamps and resembles a 2ft plasterer’s light without a tripod frame, minimising trip hazards. Other new lighting products are also in development.

Amongst other products that are proving popular is the Beacon 360 rechargeable light, designed for bright all-round illumination and long running times. Improved manufacturing techniques have also resulted in a lower price tag for the unit.

Shortly after the lockdown was announced, HSC introduced a comprehensive range of sanitisation products. “The Master SF3 fogging/misting unit has been in particular demand for workplace cleansing tasks,” says Gary. “We are selling them in quantities every day at the moment.”

It’s striking to think that, a little over six months ago, no-one could have expected there to be demand for such a line-up. However, as usual, hirers and suppliers are coming up with new solutions.
