Valued local service

Many people have valued the responsive service they received from local businesses during the pandemic. Serving the community is something that has always been important to KMA Tool Hire & Sales.

Located in Mold, Flintshire, the business was founded by Mark and Kerry Alexander in 2017, offering a wide range of equipment alongside other services like chainsaw sharpening and garden machinery supplies to meet local needs. It also stocks workwear and PPE.

“We really came into our own during the lockdown period,” says Mark, who entered the industry in 1988 with Delyn Hire, which was later acquired by Speedy. “We kept working seven days a week, offering a customer collection service in the mornings and then doing socially distanced deliveries in the afternoons. I think it’s opened a lot of people’s eyes to how local businesses can help during a crisis.

“We have been supplying many hospitals across our region. One on visit I was talking to an NHS contractor building an 80-bed extension, who said that he couldn’t bring back all his workers because he couldn’t source appropriate dust masks. I had 20 in the van so I just gave them to him. He was so grateful.”

KMA supports its community by buying from locally based suppliers where possible. It sources mobile towers from Pop-Up Products in Deeside, which have been proving popular lately as furloughed homeowners tackle projects. Other recent purchases include power tools from Hilti and beam lifters from HSC.
