NPH digs LPG

NPH Hire ‘N’ Sales of Bristol is the first hire company to order the LPG variant of Kubota’s KX19-4 mini excavator.

MD Nigel Potter tells me that he has had the machine on trial this week and has already placed an order for two.

“I first saw it as a prototype at the Bauma exhibition in Munich last year. I had been looking for an electric digger but when I saw this it ticked all the boxes.

“People have used LPG-powered forklifts for years and the engine only emits water vapour. It’s quieter than a diesel machine and you can use it indoors. I believe this could be the way forward,” he adds. The 1.9-tonne machine offers a maximum digging depth of 2500mm.

Nigel already has more than 20 Kubota diesel machines in the NPH fleet ranging up to 6 tonnes, and he reports that utilisation is currently very high.

“Lots of people were furloughed and have been spending money on garden renovations,” he says. “It’s been incredibly busy and we’ve just had a record quarter.”
