Stronger relationships

Whilst the disruption caused by the coronavirus has certainly created a challenging economic environment, the ways in which businesses have helped others has led to the strengthening of trading relationships in many instances.

That’s certainly been the case for Moore Equipment Hire which was founded by Stan Moore four years ago and is located in Grangemouth.

“At the outset we decided that we had to support our customers, so if we knew a site where they were working had been closed, we wouldn’t send them an invoice for the equipment they had on hire. It was the moral thing to do.

Record month

“It has generated a lot of goodwill and, now that the sites have reopened, people remember how we helped.” Stan adds that business from DIY customers on furlough kept us the company busy during the lockdown period, and July turned out to be a record month.

Moore Equipment Hire also supplied equipment for the NHS Louisa Jordan temporary hospital at the Glasgow SEC (Scotland Exhibition and Conference centre), which is named after a Scottish nurse who died in service during World War I.

“We were supporting contractors who were working 24/7, supplying them with access equipment, generators, lighting towers, pumps, heaters, coolers and more,” says Stan.

“Business went off the scale”

“After that the cash business from DIY customers simply went off the scale. People realised they wouldn’t be going on holiday this year and decided to spend their disposable income on their homes.

“To meet demand we’ve bought a lot more bread-and-butter products like MHM generators, Kubota minis, JCB tracked dumpers, Seddons Taskmaster pressure washers, Makita power tools and HSC dehumidifiers," he adds.

“We also designed and produced our own hand sanitising station, which we have supplied to a number of customers.”
