Makita maintains power

By preparing a careful marketing campaign during the lockdown period, Makita UK has successfully launched a new cordless tools range.

The XGT 40V Max line-up is designed to optimise power and run-time from the higher voltage batteries. The 40V platform complements Makita’s existing LXT 18V system.

“This means that the XGT cordless machines offer output that can rival the high power of corded tools and, even some petrol engine equipment,” said Marketing Manager Kevin Brannigan.

Tools available include an impact driver, rotary hammers, combi-hammer, angle grinders, circular saw and a reciprocating saw.

Electronic alternatives

“We had already scheduled the launch for June and, although we were all working from home during the lockdown, we pressed ahead with it. Normally we would have held face-to-face dealer presentations and trade days, so we worked flat out to offer electronic alternatives instead,” said Kevin.

“We produced on-line training materials, product demonstration videos and digital information packs, and we duly had the machines available for the June launch,” he added.

The excellent weather at the start of the summer also boosted sales of Makita’s gardening equipment as people tackled various maintenance tasks during the lockdown.

Kevin says that Makita maintained a similar pro-active approach following the 2008 downturn. This time around, the company has again turned a potentially negative situation into a positive one.
