When I called Andy Munford, Managing Director of Shindaiwa Ltd, he was in buoyant mood. He had just clinched a significant order following the first of a series of demonstrations that the company is organising after the further easing of lockdown restrictions.

“We’ve been busy arranging these demonstrations at our headquarters in Four Ashes, near Cannock, for customers who now want to see our welder/generators in action. This latest order is from an independent hirer for four of our Eco 300 models, and the level of interest we have been receiving gives me confidence that business is recovering.

“We have full hand washing and sanitisation measures in place at our premises and we’ll observe strict social distancing throughout.

“We also recently won a large order for our Site Bright Ultra rechargeable lights (below right). These are certified to operate in Zone 1 gas and hazardous dust areas, and will be used by contractors undertaking essential maintenance work on ships and submarines.”

Shindaiwa reported a record year for 2019/20 and was fortunate in being able to supply another significant consignment of lighting equipment to a major hirer just before the disruption caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Andy said that Shindaiwa decided not to furlough any of its team in order to give them peace of mind and to stay flexible enough to meet the needs of construction professionals and utilities. It’s a view that seems to have been well justified.
