An important aspect of machines powered by more eco-friendly energy sources is they can offer greater operational flexibility and, in turn, more hire opportunities than their fossil fuel counterparts.
This message was promoted by Snorkel UK when the company showed its latest zero emission lifting equipment at the recent Executive Hire Show.
Models on display included the S2755RTE lithium-electric narrow rough terrain scissor lift (pictured), a four-wheel drive model measuring only 1.45m wide and offering a maximum working height of 10.1m with a lift capacity of 300kg.
Designed for outdoor applications, the AC electric motor gives higher torque than a diesel engine, resulting in improved gradeability. Noise is also reduced by up to 62%, enabling the lifts to be used indoors or in work environments with regulations governing permitted sound levels.
Furthermore, Snorkel says that with minimal battery and electrical system maintenance being required on the machines, servicing costs are reduced by up to 93% when compared to an engine, while also eliminating the costs and risks of waste oil and filter disposal.
By promoting positive points like these, hirers can help users choose equipment that can ease the transition greener ways of working.
Indeed, this also shows that effective battery driven models are now available to replace fossil-fuelled machines in certain applications, something that is assuming greater importance as the rebate on using red diesel in construction is lifted from 1 April – discussed recently on the blog.
