Cox acquires DIY Hire (Kidderminster)

Cox Hire Ltd has acquired DIY Hire (Kidderminster) Ltd which trades as Hire It. 

Jon Richmond and Ian Rampling of Cox Hire have partnered with DIY Hire’s Gavin Lawrence, Depot Manager and a minor shareholder, to buy the business in an all-share purchase brokered by The Hire Exchange. 

DIY Hire was originally founded in 1980 by John and Fiona Davies, initially operating from their own home. In 1991 the business moved to its present main road location and shortly afterwards adopted the Hire It name to reflect the broader range of equipment it was able to offer, including compact plant. 

Jon Richmond, MD of Cox Hire said: “Hire It is a great business and is both a supplier to us and local competitor and in that respect is totally compatible with our business. We know the people and have long admired the way they work and how they serve their 3,000 customers.”

Hire It will become part of Cox Hire Holdings Ltd but will trade independently under its existing name, still led by Gavin Lawrence.
