TPA service on track for efficiency

A portfolio of products designed to increase railway site safety, efficiency and productivity, as well as potentially reducing costs for station contractors, has been launched recently by Vp’s temporary access solutions business, TPA.

The service includes both rapid rail access and portable roadways products such as lightweight foam, Maxi-Track heavy duty and Zappmat light duty plastic ground protection panels. It also offers station platform access steps and platform edge protection barriers.

The business states that, with railway passenger numbers gradually recovering after the impact of Covid and expected to resume growth in the medium to long-term future, train operators are refocusing their efforts on the provision of longer trains, resulting in a requirement for extended platforms, improved station infrastructure and related facilities.

A particularly busy period of station upgrade works is planned in Network Rail’s next investment control period called CP7, which runs between 2024 and 2029.

TPA says that as a significant proportion of its existing rail customers are already involved in station works of some kind, and since other station contractors prefer having a one-stop-shop for temporary access equipment, the company has made a wide range of access solutions available in one place.

The new platform edge protection barriers are designed to protect workers on station platforms from accidentally falling onto the track itself, while the recently introduced platform access steps have been devised to allow safe, secure pedestrian access to the track.

The Maxi-Track and Zappmat plastic roadway products can create temporary construction compounds as well as protecting vulnerable station platform surfaces from heavier vehicle and plant traffic.
