Lithium-ion cabinets from Cemo

The issue of lithium-ion battery safety and preventative measures has featured frequently on the blog in the wake of the devastating fire that severely damaged Alide Hire Services’ Bristol depot on Boxing Day last year. 

CEMO is amongst the manufacturers that offer products designed for the safe charging and storage of batteries, with a range that includes separate cabinets for each purpose. Some of these were shown (above) at the Plantworx exhibition in June.  

The charging cabinet has cooling fans to dissipate any heat produced and has a detector that shuts down the unit and sounds an alarm if smoke, fire or excessive temperature are detected. 

A contact is fitted on the door so that it has to be closed in order for the charger to operate. 

In tests, the unit demonstrated fire resistance of more than 60 minutes from inside to outside the cabinet in accordance with the DIN EN 1363-1 standard.

The storage cabinet also has a cooling fan and the alarm sensor system. 

CEMO also offers a range of Li-Safe products that resemble tough plastic toolboxes for the transportation of quarantined or damaged batteries. The casings are lined with a fire-resistant material.
