HSC stalwart retires

Time certainly passes quickly. Kevin Leaver retires tomorrow after spending 20 years as operations director of The Hire Supply Company, having been with the company since its foundation.

Besides helping to ensure hirers were kept well equipped throughout the pandemic – particularly during the early stages when demand for spares to maintain equipment rocketed – one of Kevin’s strongest memories is when HSC moved into its first premises in 2001 at Long Eaton.

“I remember thinking it was very big but we were confident we would fill it. It was perfect for starting off and we rapidly outgrew it,” he tells me. "Soon we were literally climbing over stock and we had to move just 18 months later.”

Kevin’s initial plans include spending more time with his family, enjoying the countryside, improving his golf and being able to relax in a favourite location on the east coast.

“Kevin was instrumental in establishing the company and without his foresight and enthusiasm HSC may never have got off the ground,” says MD Gary McWilliam. “His hard work, commitment and dedication are worthy of admiration and he will be greatly missed by his colleagues and co-directors.”

I wish Kevin all the best, too.
