Clements adds training

Clements Plant & Tool Hire has expanded its operation by acquiring Leicestershire-based access platform IPAF training provider, Oakbarn Training.

This will enable the company to bring training completely in-house, enabling customers to acquire certification to operate the range of machines it offers.

Clements Chairman Jim Longstaff tells me that the company has previously outsourced training to Oakbarn and held the courses at the Clements headquarters in Coventry. The acquisition was agreed following the retirement of owner Gordon Flowers.

“Everything fell into place at the right time because we had been looking to open a dedicated training operation with our own manager,” says Jim. “This role will now be undertaken by Rhys Hutchinson (pictured below), the son of Clements MD Adrian Hutchinson – in addition to his Loler inspection duties. So that’s a step up for him and a positive move for the business.”

Oakbarn Training will continue to operate under its original name and become a trading style of Clements Plant & Tool Hire. The Coventry premises already include a substantial training room and facilities, and Jim tells me that other types of courses might be added in the future.

Incidentally, expect further expansion at Clements later this year.
